My background in relational therapy allows me to understand individuals through the relationships they cohabit. Families come in various forms and sizes, and at times, navigating through these relational dynamics and understanding differing perspectives may be difficult. Throughout our time together, we will work to make each member’s voice heard, find ways of communication that feel helpful, and establish and restore connection. I am a registered clinical marriage and family therapist with specific training, supervision and experience in helping families work though the challenges they are facing. The therapy is often for relationships that have become conflictual and often disengaged. Family can provide the strongest and most important relationships we have, except when they don't - this is when they can become some of the most painful and challenging relationships to work through and heal. Family therapy is specifically geared toward addressing and turning around these complex and emotionally charged relationships.

It is not uncommon in families for patterns to be set and sometimes these patterns are not healthy or helpful for family relationships, or individual mental health. We often learn to tolerate our family members’ behaviour and have difficulty speaking up or expressing how their behaviour impacts us. In my sessions with families, I encourage open, honest communication and ensure that each individual feels validated and gets equal time to be heard. Often difficult conversations can be more successful when there is a neutral person facilitating and promoting respectful, non-confrontational interaction.
