My name is Heather and I am a Christian that counsels. This makes me different from other Christian counselors. Because I know that not all Christians believe the same things, I aid you in using your Christian beliefs to find Godly solutions to your concerns. I strive to create a safe Christian fellowship with you that is without judgment or persecution. It is not my goal to have you believe in the same manner in which I believe but to aid you in living by the beliefs in which you hold.

Is a Christian Counseling perspective important to you in therapy? As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality. Jace Draper is an LMFT with an MA from Azusa Pacific.

I follow the promptings of Holy Spirit in which direction I take with each client for each session. I help people connect with Jesus in a vibrant, authentic way that will prove life changing. I believe Jesus is our healer and that he can, wants to and will come close to the broken hearted. I provide tools to help each client become closer to Christ their healer. I believe the Bible is the infallible word of God, and that it is the standard rule of faith and conduct. I believe there is one God, in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I also believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins and was raised as atonement for our sins.

As a Christian based counselor I integrate psychological principles with spiritual perspectives, allowing individuals to explore their concerns within the context of our Christian faith. My expression of Christian counseling promotes a sense of identity, purpose, calling, hope, and meaning., helping clients find strength and guidance in their relationship with God. The process will include prayer, utilizing scripture to help validate what the client is going through, and other spiritual practices as therapeutic tools, fostering spiritual growth, healing, and a greater connection with God.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. For us, the work is more about truth and transparency of Christ's message and working on the natural laws of accountability and decision making that evolves from that. If one honors God's natural laws of reaping and sowing around the decisions one makes, one is indeed living Scripture to its fullest. I work with many clients who have had traumatic experiences with religion or church, who may have even been hesitant to contact me because I am a believer. My feedback from these clients has been overwhelmingly positive. Spiritual trauma is all too prevalent. I also work with those who prefer me because of my Christian faith. No matter your background, whether a religious person or otherwise, I meet clients on their terms as they work to explore what they believe, not what I believe.

Faith and spirituality can provide comfort and meaning to those guided by their beliefs. I was raised in a Christian household myself so I have an appreciation for the values instilled by religion, the importance of tradition, and the strength of community. My approach to counseling is humanistic and welcoming of all spiritualities. Though I do not incorporate any specific pastoral counsel, I encourage my spiritual clients to draw on their beliefs during the counseling process.

We come alongside our clients and walk them through difficult stretches in life's road and help them develop the skills to navigate life's difficulties using their spiritual resources.
