Current Initiatives

There are some pertinent initiatives that would improve mental services in Texas. The graduate education programs for behavioral health professionals should be expanded to include psychiatry, social work, psychology, nursing, and counseling. Some of the initiatives promote the idea of asking professional boards to gather data that will help identify specific ethnic, cultural, racial, and linguistic workforce shortages. The current initiatives also seek to receive investment for the advanced technology that is required for suicide prevention training.5
