Mental Health in McKinney

The Community Lifeline Center offers many mental health services to residents of McKinney. Life skills classes are offered each month and focus on topics such as computer skills and money management. Job training courses are available as well. Participants receive instruction on how to look for and apply for jobs. The New Directions group teaches members how to handle the emotional ups and downs and the stresses of losing one's job. Educational and outreach programs seek to inform the public about mental illness and appropriate treatments. Call the center at 972-542-0020 to find out more.2

Support groups of all kinds are available to those in need in McKinney. The Warm Place offers free group nights to families who have recently lost a loved one. Family nights involve a potluck dinner, conversation time, and small group activities for children, teens and adults. Groups are offered for families who have lost a parent, sibling, or other family member. To find out about meeting times and places, call 817-870-2272.3 Families impacted by mental illness can also find support in one of the groups offered by the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Collin County. Current Education

Homeschooling has become a popular option for many families in McKinney, especially those who seek to educate their children with a religiously-based curriculum. McKinney Area Christian Homeschoolers (MARCH) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides homeschool resources to local families. In addition to curriculum materials, MARCH provides facilities for homeschool children to present projects. MARCH also organizes activities that bring homeschool children together to learn, grow and have fun.5
