My approach to helping individuals or families through psychotherapy encompasses getting to know the individual as being a unique person that does not have to fit into everyone else's mold. Psychotherapy involves compassion and empathy for my clients. I am honored to be on the other side of my client's exploration and journey in discovery. I provide guidance where my client needs me to be with them.

Talk therapy can be helpful with a wide range of issues. I want to work with you not just to get to the root of the issues that make it difficult to cope with life, but also the secret strengths you have that can make things easier. I am strengths focused, and able to help you with quick, short term advancements. I am also available for long term sessions so we can reinforce the things we learn along the way.

Life poses many challenges to all of us throughout of lives. When life becomes overwhelming, or your emotions seem like they are out of control, it often helps to have an objective person listen to what is occuring in your life. My goal is to hear what you have to say in a nonjudmental way, in an atmosphere of safety. Together we can explore what is going on with you, and I can provide you with tools to decrease your emotional suffering, gain insight into your issue, and increase coping (individually or within your relationships).

Psychotherapy aims to help you identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behavior. You may seek psychotherapy for a variety of different reasons. It can be an alternative to medication or can be used with other treatment options or medications. Even with the use of medication, psychotherapy helps address specific issues. In Individual Therapy sessions, we will spend our time working through the various ways your emotions may have felt confusing or misleading for you. No assumptions will be made about who you are or what you're going through, but rather we will use these sessions to journey together to reach the goals you would like to set for yourself.

Psychotherapy? For some, a therapist office and talking about themselves is a very comfortable and “normal” setting. To help calm these fears, I tend to compare psychotherapy to athletic coaching. Top athletes – LeBron James, J.J. Watt, Serena Williams – all have a coach. These athletes excel at their individual sport, have been playing for most of their lives; and still benefit from coaching. In life, or sport, we sometimes lack insight to what blocks our progress to our full potential. In psychotherapy, like a coach, I offer that support, feedback, and clarity.

Therapy is a special time and relationship in your life, unlike any others. I am here just for you- to be a support, to listen, and to be in your corner. When we share our thoughts, worries, issues out loud we are better able to see where things might be going wrong (and to feel relief that we have shared a burden!)
