Psychotherapy is a word used to distinguish from other therapies such as Occupational or Physical therapy. Psychotherapy is counseling to help the psyche. I provide both traditional talk psychotherapy as well as creative interventions in therapy. You often hear psychotherapists referred to as a Shrink. I like to think of myself as an "Un Shrink". I like to help you turn your internal thought processes around so that you can live more fully and authentically rather than shrunken. Feeling shrunk hurts and leads to feeling the need for therapy. Feeling full, complete and good enough (i.e. un-shrunk) leads to healthy living.

Therapy is a special time and relationship in your life, unlike any others. I am here just for you- to be a support, to listen, and to be in your corner. When we share our thoughts, worries, issues out loud we are better able to see where things might be going wrong (and to feel relief that we have shared a burden!) As your therapist, I'm not here to give you advice or tell you what to do, but rather to know and understand yourself better and make decisions and changes that feel right for you. In my psychotherapy approach, I assess possible past issues a client may need to re-visit. Some people have long-standing unresolved issues from their past, which need to be addressed in psychotherapy. Although an individual's past may certainly need to be examined, my main focus in psychotherapy is to improve the person's current situation and move toward a more positive future. Clients can potentially benefit from gaining better control of their lives by improving coping skills, having more positive relationships, and gaining confidence in their ability to be stronger emotionally, physically, and spiritually, I provide a safe and supportive environment in which to examine their lives.

Lake Austin Psychotherapy offers general psychotherapy via the narrative perspective of externalization from the problem. Additional subconscious processing with EMDR can facilitate cognitive narrative connections that allow for new, adaptive perspectives to emerge.
