Adults may encounter things we don’t feel completely ready for and may lose motivation or connection with our surroundings. Losing someone or something is incredibly hard. I believe that one of the great myths that we are told is simply that “time heals all wounds.” Time can actually reinforce the pain of loss and it is important to mourn and grieve that which we no longer have. Life is difficult sometimes. People pass away, jobs are lost. It is hard to know when to get professional help or to do it on our own. If you are stuck and not moving forward with the grief process, it could be "complicated grief." Where we feel guilty or there is unresolved issues with the loss, counseling can you help deal with these complications. Complicated grief can turn into a depression or cause anxiety when you have buried it. A current loss can trigger earlier losses from childhood or family dysfunction.
