About Richelle Stillwell:

I have not been an “official” counselor for long, but I have served in that capacity in one way or another for over 21 years. In 1996, I graduated from Sanford Brown University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. I loved my job and felt tremendous satisfaction in helping people recover from what I thought at the time, was solely a physical recovery. I have come to understand that the real satisfaction and draw that I felt, developed during my one-on-one time with each client,  talking and processing through the experiences that landed them in my care.

Over the past 10 years, I have served in various community settings, providing pastoral counseling, life coaching, and licensed professional clinical counseling to individuals who just needed someone to listen. I have discovered that we all have the power and ability to make substantial changes in our lives if we are given the right set of tools, have a supportive and safe atmosphere to explore areas of change, and receive the encouragement of someone who believes we can do it!

I am licensed to provide Clinical Supervision to CIT's and PLPC's in the state of Missouri. If you are a student who is finishing the last part of your counselor training, or looking for a supervisor for your PLPC license, I am happy to work with you to finish your dream!

Specializations
  • Trauma Histories and Intervention

A note about my trauma specialization:  When I initially began providing counseling during my practicum and internship to children and families who have experienced trauma or neglect, I was overwhelmed at the hard journey that often comes with walking out from under its devastating impact. What became clear to me, however, was that children and families have tremendous resiliency and strength when given the tools to overcome those hurts and challenges. It was through these experiences that I began my interest and specialization in trauma and crisis.
In addition, I also regularly work with clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Family Conflict
  • Self- Esteem Difficulties

Philosophy

My personal philosophy of counseling begins with my willingness to enter into an individual’s experience with them, with an open heart and mind to listen. I became a counselor because I have a heart for individuals who are hurt or struggling to find healing and wholeness in their lives.

I believe that finding healing and wholeness begins with addressing the whole person—mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Counseling is an opportunity for an individual to explore their struggles in a safe and confidential environment. As a counselor, I desire to establish a therapeutic relationship that encourages and supports my clients in discovering their unique self. Together, we can find approaches and solutions that complement and strengthen their individuality.
