Family therapy is different than individual treatment in that all family members are the identified patient, as opposed to one specific individual. We know that each member of a family plays a specific role in their family's dynamics, and sometimes those roles become dysfunctional for the family, but it is not always easy to identify the problem. A therapist is able to approach the family from a different perspective and identify the problem. Out team is passionate about working with family members to develop healthy patterns in which to engage with one another.

Family is ideally a source of support and encouragement that provides its members a strong dependable foundation. Sadly, when conflict arises many families feel a fracturing of their foundation and are unsure how to repair it. I assist families in identifying the source(s) of discord and work with the family as a group to identify treatment goals aimed at repairing or achieving family harmony.

As a family counselor I am committed to finding and supporting the voices of all family members, with special attention to the ways in which family members maintain rigid, fixed assumptions about each other. My Identity Renegotiation approach helps people to collaborate and eliminate behavioral and emotional problems created by new developmental phases, new relationships, stepfamily formation, new parenthood, disability, job loss, deaths, health crises, educational disruptions, and retirement.

Our family relationships can bring us great fulfillment and happiness; sometimes family can also be a source of pain. Lack of communication and poor communication can lead to major misunderstandings between family members. Our family knows our strengths and shortcomings better than anyone else. Psychotherapy can help if you are experiencing conflict in your family, if members get stuck in certain roles or patterns of behavior with each other, or if you have estrangement between family members. By teaching communication skills, I can help you let go of longstanding issues and struggles and get back to positive loving relationships with each other.

There are many issues that can arise in a family setting that can affect the family dynamic and cause emotional issues for different members of the family. Children are at the highest risk to be affected by these family issues. One of the main problems that arises are attachment issues, either becoming too dependent on a parent, or not forming enough of an attachment with a parent. After a divorce you may decide to remarry. This is another major change for both you and your children. A therapist can be very effective at finding out what is troubling your child and help them deal with their emotions.

We work to nurture change and development of effective interaction between family members, as family relationships are a significant factor in psychological health. Our therapists believe that, regardless of the origin of the problem, and regardless of whether the clients consider it an "individual" or "family" issue, involving families in solutions is often beneficial through direct participation in the therapy session. The family may be immediately related, or may include strongly supportive, long-term relationships between people who may or may not be related by blood or marriage.

When one member of the family is using drugs, has defiant behavior, or a conduct disorder . . . the entire family spins out of control. My strategies help families end the chaos and find peace. When a crisis intervention is necessary I have the skills and the team to respond quickly. I am trained in many types of family therapy and use an integrative approach to resolving conflict.

We are all travelers on a journey called Life. Sometimes we stumble or feel lost when we encounter obstacles and crossroads along the way. Each person has the opportunity to seek a path toward happiness, but many of us carry baggage that becomes excessively burdensome. Baggage can manifest in many guises including: hand-me-down core beliefs, destructive lifestyle patterns, poor communication, dysfunctional relationships, unhealthy habits and coping strategies.

Families respond very positively to an objective person who allows each participant to be heard. When we have more pieces of the puzzle all working together in my office, we begin to see the real shape of the problem, not just the picture the stronger members of the family project. Then we can work together on what is real and see everyone benefit from the counseling. I'd love to help your family!!!

The dynamics of family are different than any other relationship we experience. Family members know us better than anyone. They know how to push our buttons, and they know our every weakness. Family members each need to share a common goal of respect (give and receive) and equally important is the ability to speak and be heard. Effective communication is lacking in struggling families and family counseling helps to restore the balance.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), a treatment program for young children with behavioral difficulties (e.g., aggression, non-compliance, defiance, and temper tantrums) that focuses on promoting positive parent-child relationships and interactions and teaching parents effective child management skills. Parents who go through the PCIT program can expect to receive teaching and coaching sessions in two phases. The first phase focuses on Relationship Enhancement, or child directed interaction skill building. Parents are taught and coached how to use specific interaction strategies during short periods of play to reinforce positive behaviors.

Families have communication styles that may not equal collaborative communication. Using Family Systems Therapy theory research, I can help your family develop effective communication and still have family members retain their true person. Families have a way of caring for family members through positive attachment and you are shown how to attach positively as a family system.

The word family can evoke a myriad of emotions ranging from safe and warm to scary and confusing. As parents, we bring baggage, good and bad, to our current family experience. Our children, with their unique personalities and needs, impact the home, also for the good and bad. If you are seeking family therapy, you have a recognized a need for a change in your home's dynamics. My years of experience as a family therapist will benefit you as we work to set limits and boundaries to build the structure your family needs to thrive.

Parenting is a challenging and rewarding role. Unfortunately no one teaches us how to parent. Most people tend to do what their parents did or in some cases the exact opposite. When that doesn't work they can be at a loss. If you are struggling with parenting I can help. My approach in Family Therapy focuses on helping the parent(s) learn new parenting techniques by understanding their child's developmental stage and needs, setting and following through with limit setting and strengthening the connection with the child.

I do my best to mediate, to help family members find their way back or heal the hurts of childhood or estrangements of adulthood. Prefer working with adult family members to restore relationships. Grown children still need the parents to fix the difficulties encountered growing up. I believe it is the adults' responsibility to maintain order in a family.

I offer support to families and children, including those children who are struggling with identity issues, peer relationships, and family relationships. In family therapy, we tend to focus on issues around communication, boundaries, and rule setting so that family members can find it easier to get along. I also offer limited parent coaching including self-regulation techniques so that you can model them for children (as well as getting the benefit for yourself!).
