Tsawwassen, means ‘looking toward the sea’ in the language of the local Coast Salish natives.  In 1959 the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal was built which provides foot passenger and motor vehicle access to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.  The ferry terminal is built at the end of a three kilometre causeway that juts into the Strait of Georgia due to the shallow bank in that location.  The ferry dock is a continuation of Highway 17 and this terminal is the largest in North America.  The Boundary Bay Airport and Roberts Bank Superport are located in close proximity to Tsawwassen.  Counselling Tsawwassen will help you overcome those struggles that you are facing in your life.  An agricultural area is designated as the Tsawwassen First Nation Reserve.  In 1999 Delta leased part of this land for 99 years which is now home to a condominium development, a longhouse, church, and cemetery.  The popular Splashdown Waterslide Park, Grand Prix Race Track and an RV park are also located here. The population in this community is over 20,000 which is suburban and mostly residential. Point Roberts, Washington, a small unincorporated community is reached via 56th Street which is the only road access to this area.  It can also be reached by crossing Boundary Bay.

 

Tsawwassen has recreational access to Boundary Bay which is a stop for migratory birds on the Pacific Flyway.  An extensive path along the edge of the bay is known as the ‘dyke’.  The southern edge of Tsawwassen is the 49th parallel which is the border with the United States.  The area known as South Delta is comprised of Tsawwassen and Ladner; the latter is the site of the Delta Municipal Hall, police station, and hospital.  The Sun Festival is hosted each year on the first week-end in August.  Christian counselling Tsawwassen, is also available for those who desire spiritual therapy.  This area has been known to be the sunniest spot in the Lower Mainland.  The two-day celebration includes a parade, live music, games, food tents, and sports events.  Guests are encouraged to dress to a specific theme each year.  The community of Boundary Bay originated in the 1890s for wealthy Vancouverites as a seaside summer community.  Many of the original cottages have been renovated and updated, and recent times have seen the construction of modern single family homes and waterfront residences.  The Beach Grove Golf Club has been a favourite summer activity over the years.
