Hi, I am Margarete Juliana, a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. I serve individuals, couples and families living in the GTA and have an office in York Region. Visit my website for specific location and map.
Contact me via this website, my email or by phone (647-233-5511) for a confidential conversation regarding your concerns and needs.
I have a PhD in Education and Masters in Sociology. I am a Clinical member of the Ontario Association of Marriage and Family therapists and of the Canadian Registry of Marriage and Family Therapy and a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist.
Emotionally Focused Therapy is a researched based method for alleviating individual and couple conflict and strengthening relationship and family bonds. Emotion Focused Therapy is based on attachment research and new research on how we can change the way we experience ourselves and each other through our emotional connection with others. Contrary to some therapy approaches that support minimizing or marginalizing emotion, EFT supports achieving a clear understanding of the client's emotions, regulating them if necessary and using emotion to determine what the client needs in the present moment. This supports clearer decision making and resolution of previously troubling thoughts and behaviors. This therapy is designed to work for individuals or for couples and families.
I believe the relationship between a therapist and client is a collaborative one. That is, I see myself as a guide in the process of therapy and focus on what the client sees as most relevant to the resolution of client distress. As such I invite clients to share their thoughts not just about the issues, but also about their experience in the therapy process.
I have worked as an addictions therapy specialist for adults, youth ages 12 to 24, and their families. I have also worked with individuals and families of individuals suffering from eating disorders.
I work with couples, individuals and families around issues that impact the whole family, including:
Mood disorders such as anxiety and depression
Life transitions (eg. separation/divorce, blended families, etc.)
Family of origin conflicts
Addictions (including substances, internet, sex, and food)
