Dr. Virginia Boney is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Florida. She is one of only two Certified Gottman Couples Counselors in the Southeast United States, and is also a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She has published articles in Marriage and Family Review and the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage. Dr. Boney is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida, as well as an Approved Supervisor for Registered Marriage and Family Interns.
Dr. Boney uses research-supported approaches to work with individuals and couples to build self-confidence and create fulfilling relationships. Her approach focuses on: (1) Identifying underlying issues and unhealthy relationship patterns; and (2) Developing understanding and skills to achieve the goals of therapy.
Sessions are structured to effectively and efficiently reach goals the clients identify utilizing treatment approaches to change that are supported by research (Gottman Couples Counseling, EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
