If you come to me because YOU want to end your substance use or behaviour, I can help you. If you are still struggling with whether or not you want to quit, I can help you with that as well! I may suggest a rehab if that is what seems best. If you are already sober and are trying to remain that way, I will offer you the numerous tools of relapse prevention, including self-care, having a sponsor, and practising mindfulness.

As a Christian psychotherapist, I'll support you in overcoming addictions by addressing the underlying spiritual and emotional roots. Through a combination of Biblical guidance and evidence-based techniques, we'll work towards freedom from addictive behaviours, and cultivate a deeper reliance on God's strength and grace. By exploring the spiritual dimensions of addiction and recovery, we'll work to restore your relationship with God and others.

We are social beings who thrive when we feel connected to others. When we are unable to connect with our loved ones, we feel painful disconnection. These feelings of disconnection can lead us to explore other strategies to feel good, even temporarily. The use of substances or addictive behaviours can temporarily reduce our feelings of emotional and physical pain while increasing our sense of pleasurable feelings. Because it is temporary, we must continue to engage in these addictive practices to cope with feeling disconnected, and our use becomes more problematic and destructive. Together, we will explore the disconnection that is driving the addictive behaviour.

Substance use/ Addiction is on a continuum. It can be something we occasionally due to numb out some distressing feelings, or it can be something that we can't function without. Addictions come in many forms and I work with many additions and "habits" including substance use, smoking and food addictions. Addictions (especially involving drug and alcohol) are strongly associated with trauma and I take a trauma-informed approach to therapy. I often utilize the potent tool of hypnosis when working with addictions and habit control.

There are many forms of addiction. In therapy we will explore your history, your values, and seek out an understanding of what has been missing for you. When we lean into substances or behaviours that become addictive there is often a sense of loss or absence. My clients begin to understand what they have missed out on and we identify what it is that they are truly seeking in their lives.
