There is a reason you are angry. In my experience, if you figure out what is behind your feelings there is a huge potential for healing and moving on with your life. Childhood issues, abuse, addiction, loss and disappointment and other life events all create feelings, and our feelings WILL eventually compel us to deal with them! Getting supportive counseling can be a great way to figure out why you are angry and what to do about it.

Anger is a vital energy that needs our conscious attention to learn how to direct it toward wise action and communication. Learn how to sense anger long before it turns into out of control reactive behaviors. Understand the natural physiological process and function of anger so you can learn how to work with your own body, mind, and emotions to find the pause between feeling and behavior, the pause that allows you to respond instead of react. Learn how to approach your anger with Self-Compassion, and understanding which allows you to excavate the wisdom within your anger. Discover you are not your anger, you are not an angry person, you are a person experiencing this thing called anger.

I can help clients deal with their anger by changing their thinking and also by identifying their emotions and triggers. Often times anger results from trauma. I help improve the client's emotional regulation by using Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). The client reduces their anger and increases their positivity, while gaining insights into addressing situations that are frustrating and anger producing.

Anger in and of itself is not a probelm. The emotion is there to tell you something about how an event affects you. Sometimes our anger gets out of control: perhaps you are in jeopardy of losing a job or relationship because of it. If that's the case and you are dealing with unmanageable anger, I can work with you to uncover why you are experiencing disruptive anger. I will equip you with practical skills which, when used can result in decreased anger and associated unwanted behaviors. If appropriate, I can use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to assist in your emotion regulation. There is hope!

There are two keys to gaining control of anger: first, gaining an understanding of what the anger is actually trying to do. Anger is a protective emotion, it has the positive intention of creating safety for self. It can come so quickly, like a reflex. What is it protecting? Many times clients don't have a clear or deep understanding of this and as it becomes clear, we are able to resolve and remove some of the sensitivity that anger protects. The second key is just in practicing new responses to old situations - as the pressure gets less because of the above process, implementing change becomes more and more natural. In the process, you learn so much that's valuable.
