I use the word "Psyche" with my clients to describe how they have a perturbance in their everyday life-style which prevents them from having a normal life. Hippocrates believed (and I do too) that when someone is out of touch with the world around them then it makes sense that there would be a perturbance to symbolize to them that corrective action is necessary. In that sense the perturbance is a good thing because it delivers a message to get back in touch with the Psyche, or the whole field, that we live in. I teach my clients that self-sabotage is actually our Psyche diligently attempting to signal us to get back in touch with ourselves. In a sense accidents are not really accidents.
