As someone who identifies as a Christian, I have the ability to utilize principles of the Christian faith when working with clients who also resonate with this religious background. Rather than labelling myself as a "Christian Counsellor," I label myself as a Registered Psychotherapist whom pulls from Christian principles, beliefs, and morals. Life is difficult and the dynamics of the world today only add complexity. Consolation in Christ can be shared and explored - including in therapy.

I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.

I practice Christian counselling and fully believe that the Word of God contains all that we need. I depend upon His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit within my counselling practice. I believe that true healing and freedom can only be found in surrendering to the Lord in every area of our lives. He has designed us to be in complete dependancy upon in Him and in doing so can we experience real peace and power to overcome. That being said, I do not over-spiritualize everything. I am not looking for a demon behind every problem, nor do I offer trite Sunday School answers. Simply put, the moral and philosophical framework from which I prescribe is Bible based.

Many people who hold a belief in a higher power find themselves at some point in their life struggling with doubts about their beliefs. Through the process of verbalizing these faith-based doubts, our experience is normalized and we can gain acceptance of our position today. From this acceptance comes possibilities for opening up to new understandings. As a Christian, I greatly appreciate how faith and spirituality play a role in our daily lives. Yet God still calls us to be in the world and to experience many different aspects of human life, even things we think God could fix. Making sense of the differences between what we believe God wants and what we face daily can be distressing and lead to despair and depression. Talking about these losses with someone with a similar faith can be vital as we navigate these challenges.
