Addiction Counselor

Gregory Crow, Ph.D.

Psychologist

7510 E. Angus Dr., Scottsdale, Arizona

During my training, I was involved in dealing with all kinds of addictions in an in-patient setting. I have also directed an intensive out-patient program for substance abuse and, since 1985, have run a recovery program for men struggling with sex addiction and or infidelity. The program has been very successful by any measure. The men who remain in the group and gain a year of sobriety have done very well and many of them continue to return annually for an update and their next years' chip. The first 90 days are rather intense, with a combination of 1:1, Group and Couples counseling. Both the offender and spouse need help. It is much better if both parties receive help.

Substance abuse and addiction are commonly used to self-medicate yourself so as to avoid unpleasant thoughts, feelings, or situations. We use substances (as well as many other behaviors) to avoid and deny these things. Recovering from abuse and addiction means acknowledging our choice to use, learning how to normalize unpleasant thoughts and feelings, deal with them in healthy ways, identify triggers and develop a relapse prevention plan. We must also learn to recognize and avoid enabling and co-dependent relationships with others. Despite all your thoughts to the contrary, there is a wait out. Recovery from addiction is possible.

Anne Brown, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

In the thirteen years of my counseling career, I have worked with numerous types of addiction, ranging from substance addiction to sex addiction. However, regardless of the substance or behavior of choice, every client has shared one toxic substance in common. That toxic substance is shame. Shame comes in two forms: healthy and toxic. Healthy shame is about our behavior and unhealthy shame is about our worth and value. In treating addiction it is essential to differentiate the two. Without resolution of the toxic shame, relapse is usually imminent. I can help you clean up the toxic shame to live a clean and sober life. You are worthy of living a life without addiction.
