Beverly Hills continued to grow throughout the 20th century, with the establishment of UCLA, many homes for the movie stars, as well as famous drives like “Rodeo Drive”.  There were many different TV programs and movies that were created around Beverly Hills, such as The Jack Benny Program.  The city has become an icon for representing the upper crust of the entertainment industry. There is some truth to this as this city has the most expensive median home prices in all of California, and in some years it ranks #1 in the United States. Beverly Hills has four different consulates located in the city. The consulates are from Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, and Armenia.  There are many different landmarks in Beverly Hills as well, aside from the homes of the rich and famous.  These landmarks include the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel, which was built on Rodeo Drive in 1928.  The hotel has a large ballroom where many big bands visited and entertained the guests.  Another historical place to visit is the Greystone Mansion, which was the former home of Edward Doheny who was an oil tycoon having made it big in the Los Angeles area, which set off the petroleum boom in southern California during the late 1890’s.1 The mansion is now on the historical registry. Of course while shopping on Rodeo Drive, don’t forget to visit the “Spanish Steps” which were designed like the true Spanish Steps located in Rome, Italy.
