Our automatic responses to our partners may be helping or hurting us (or both!) but our responses are there for a reason. Couples therapy works to understand these automatic responses and take better control of the process, freeing us from a stance of defensiveness.

Burbank established their first newspaper in 1906, and the city was incorporated in 1911. At this time the city adopted their first seal which was a cantaloupe, the crop that saved the town when the land boom collapsed. The seal has since been revised to depict the media and aircraft industry that is so prevalent in the city. The city began to grow and by 1930, several large employers were headquartered in Burbank, such as First National Studios, Lockheed Company, Northrop Aircraft Corporation, and Andrew Jergens Company. Early manufacturing in Burbank included the Burbank Furniture Manufacturing Company, Moreland Motor Truck Company, employing around 500 people. When Walt Disney studio moved from Hollywood to Burbank in 1939, they had wanted to build a Mickey Mouse Park, but the city council refused to allow it to be built. Some other big-named studios moved to Burbank as well, such as MBC and Sony Pictures Entertainment.1 Burbank of today is primarily home to employees of the motion picture and television studios in the area. The entertainment industry has virtually replaced the defense industry as the primary employer in the area. Burbank’s downtown was revitalized, that has a great mix of shopping, dining and entertainment for both locals and tourists alike.
