The Pico Youth and Family Center is a Santa Monica-based non-profit organization that works to promote peace, unity and social justice, particularly for the city's youth. The center provides a number of programs designed to reduce youth violence and increase social responsibility. Additionally, educational and career services are offered, including tutoring, leadership development classes and job training seminars. Courses in computer technology, art and music are also available. By equipping Santa Monica's youth with knowledge and skills, the Pico Youth and Family Center strengthens families as well as the community. Families who are facing legal issues can find many support services at the Santa Monica office of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. Families who need assistance with housing issues, such as evictions, poor living conditions in rental housing, or landlord harassment can find defense help at legal aid. Families who have been impacted by domestic violence can also find assistance, including filing for protection orders. Information about government assistance for childcare, food stamps, and job training is available as well.
