After 42 years in the field, I have learned that the secret to helping clients get past that overwhelmed feeling requires only two easy steps. First, I listen closely to find out what people's natural strengths, skills, and gifts are. Then I gradually give them very small assignments called "baby steps" that rely on their strengths. Each small change has huge results, and depression soon fades away as each step is achieved.
