I utilize and implement aspects of the Gottman approach to helping couples heal. I assist each person in the couple in helping them recognize how they communicate with and impact the other, and how some communication patterns are ineffective. I approach couples counseling primarily as a facilitator of healthy and mutually respectful communication. This has often broken down at home so creating a safe place for both people to speak and listen to each other is a lost experience I work on recovering. In turn, there may then be a sense of relief and hope that both people are able to calm down and problem solve their situation.
