There are no shortages of colleges or universities in the Plymouth area. There are also two law schools located in the city. The Infant-Parent Development program offered by St. David's Center seeks to help first-time parents, specifically those who face mental health challenges, develop the necessary skills to effectively raise their child. The home-based model educates parents about child development and child rearing practices that facilitate good social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Parents also learn how to develop strong, positive bonds with their child. Services can be provided for up to four years to ensure parents get the support they need. Preserving the ability of youth to thrive is an important goal for the city of Plymouth. To ensure children have the resources they need to succeed, the city has partnered with Treehouse to deliver mental health services to at-risk youth in the community. Participating teens learn about issues that negatively impact young people, from bullying to eating disorders to substance use, and learn positive and effective methods for overcoming negative issues in their lives. Mentors offer support, guidance, and unconditional love to children who may not have a strong and safe relationship with a caring adult. All services are offered free of charge. Older adults who have day-to-day, physical, or mental health needs can obtain services through the L'Chaim Senior Services Program offered by Jewish Family and Children's Services. The program provides a variety of services to adults age 60 and over, including free case management, which ensures the elderly have access to all the supports they need to remain healthy and independent. Jewish Family Services also offers assessment for memory impairment, as well as behavior management and educational programs for individuals who have Alzheimer's. Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners is a local agency that provides assistance to families in crisis. Their programs address a variety of issues, from helping families put food on the table to finding adequate housing for single mothers and their children. The agency's employment program helps those who are unemployed find work sufficient enough to support the needs of their families. Interfaith also addresses the mental health needs of local families by connecting them with community resources that provide support after divorce, domestic abuse, or other serious situations diminish a family's ability to function.
