While the causes of depression remain unclear, we are fortunate to have many approaches which have helped countless people regain their lives. As there may be many factors involved in why an individual is depressed I always do a thorough assessment. While I am not adverse to psychiatric medications I have concluded that their use for depression is questionable, albeit an option when combined with therapies such as Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Behavioral Activation, and Logotherapy. I have found that taking a holistic approach, tailoring the therapy to the client and their world, is the best approach to treating depression.

Major depression affects individuals in many ways - you may experience a sad or depressed mood, or an inability to feel pleasure, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness, or hopelessness, loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities, including sex, difficulty concentrating and complaints of poor memory, insomnia or oversleeping, appetite changes, which may include weight gain or loss as well as fatigue and lack of energy. WalkinTalkinTherapy assist with these symptoms thru combining a mild form of exercise with talk therapy.

Depression is an invisible suffering that can cause us to feel paralyzed, unmotivated, lonely, misunderstood or ashamed. In some cases it can cause us to question the value of our lives, or how much we matter to others. Working with depression includes: increasing feelings of safety, self-compassion, and agency; examining family mental health histories and early attachment experiences; examining beliefs about ourselves and how we view and relate with others; giving voice to parts of ourselves that we may have silenced; and building an attachment where we feel seen, understood, and where there is trust.
