I am a Clinical Sexologist, Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, and President Elect of the Suncoast Mental Health Counseling Association. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Psychology at the University of South Florida. I originally intended to study and practice law, and just prior to entering law school I explored my prospects in becoming a therapist. Ultimately I decided the counseling field was better suited to my professional and personal goals. I then earned my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling at Argosy University where I graduated summa cum laude.
Upon graduation, I completed my internship working with the Department of Juvenile Justice at a high risk security facility with male youths aged 13 to 18. The incarcerated young men struggled with severe legal and behavioral problems, as well as co-occurring substance abuse and/or addiction. Once my internship was completed, I became a full time bereavement counselor with hospice, specializing in childhood and adolescent grief and loss. After several years I was offered a position as a Military and Family Life Counselor with the United States Air Force at MacDill AFB working with military members and their families. While serving those who serve, I completed a doctoral program in Clinical Sexology at the American Academy of Clinical Sexology, fulfilling my lifelong dream of becoming a sexual health therapist.
I strive to create a warm and receptive environment where you will feel safe to express any and all thoughts or feelings. My style of therapy is genuinely empathetic, straightforward, and tailored to the specific needs of individual patients. One of my primary goals is to help patients uncover and encourage their unique strengths, which they can then use make meaningful changes that empower their lives. I firmly believe that all people are able to change their lives if given the opportunity to do so!
I believe in educating not only my patients, but the community as a whole. Over the years, I have completed many speaking engagements and co-led support groups for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as advocated for sexual health and awareness for adolescents. In addition I have been a guest lecturer for Keiser University for their counseling and sexuality courses. Most recently I presented in Germany at the International Scientific Sexuality Research convention at their biannual conference.
I currently specialize in sex therapy, bereavement, couples counseling, family therapy, LGBTQ+ issues, and gender dysphoria.
