I hold a Masters of Social Work degree and am a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (Reg. No: 820526) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (Reg. No. 14123). I am also a Certified Clinical Traumatologist and provide trauma recovery care for individuals who have experienced trauma or abuse or who have been diagnosed with PTSD.  I have had the opportunity to do several presentations on Children's Mental Health and contribute to feature articles on mental health, substance abuse and available community resources.

My background has been primarily working in Community Mental Health Organizations with children, youth, adults and families and most recently in a hospital environment with an adolescent population.   In addition to this, I have had the opportunity to work overseas and experience working with people from all backgrounds and cultures in various environments.

The therapeutic approaches that I use are based on client goals by drawing on individual and family strengths, building on existing skills and developing new strategies and coping mechanisms using evidence based interventions.  It is important to me that clients feel safe and comfortable in their sessions and are able to share freely about their experience and about their individual needs and goals.  Confidentiality is essential in any therapeutic relationship and I strive to ensure children, youth and families are aware of the boundaries of confidentiality and are comfortable with them when starting counselling.

Clients can expect that the first session will cover all guidelines of entering into a therapeutic relationships, the policies of working together and that a confidentiality agreement will be signed and kept on file.  It is important to discuss goals and expectations at the outset and discuss the type of therapy clients are seeking and how that will look moving forward.  The types of therapy offered include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Trauma Therapy
  • Short Term Supportive Counselling
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Positive Parenting
  • Single Session Counselling
  • Crisis and Safety Planning
The benefits to clients mean improved mental and emotional health, improved interpersonal relationships and increased functioning in their daily lives.  With the right support and development of positive coping strategies, increased stress management, support to manage traumatic experiences and developing of a support network a person can experience a positive life changing transformation that will make a world of difference.  I work with clients as they begin their journey and provide practical management strategies, supportive counselling and evidence based approaches that lead to positive outcomes.
