Not know what we want to do professionally can feel paralyzing. We look around and it seems like everyone else knows what they want to do. Sometimes what we need is to learn how to listen to ourselves. There are so many 'shoulds' in our lives around professions, success, and money. What do YOU want? How can you know? These are the questions we will explore together using exercises and dialogue.

While most career counselors love to give you capacity based profiles of what your talents and interests are for your best bet career choices, Grey Matters international believes that most people make predictably irrational decisions and then after making them learn way to make them fit into their identities using various types of rationalizations and strategies. We are able to assist folks in career counseling type settings by giving a deeper look at their decision making profile so they can better understand where the core frustration or desire is coming from in the world of work. Career Counseling: Most clients’ first come to me with a feeling of being trapped by the circumstances that work/life has presented them. It’s very frustrating! By introducing you to some elegantly simple tools, you will discover that there are openings (physically and energetically) that can dissolve frustrating stuckness. Importantly, you can become aware of perceptions and experiences not previously available to you. The tools/exercises that we use in session experientially shift us out of our everyday minds. This allows you access to another intelligence within a naturopathic pathway supported by your body, hearts and nature.

Various internal conflict underlie career problems. Often counselors give advice to those who come to them for career counseling, but I stay away from advice. Giving clients advice only keeps them dependent on you. Instead, I focus on the underlying conflicts that are related to low self-esteem, fear of competing or an inability to assert themselves. Often women have their own kind of conflicts about being a woman in a man's world, and internal resentments hold them back. My approach is to focus on the conflicts of each client and help them resolve them and cope more effectively. The approach has proven over the years to be quite successful.

Traditional career counseling focuses on exploring career options and then pursuing them. When I work with clients, I prefer to see the work in a broader context. While we will be able to explore some of the traditionally addressed elements, I will also help you look at how your current work (or lack thereof) is affecting you, your relationships and your behaviors. Additionally, from a spiritual standpoint, I will help you explore the relationship between your work and your faith (especially your vocation). In looking at career and work in this broader way, you are more likely to find a place of wholeness and peace. I look forward to joining you on this journey.
