Sarah is experienced in providing counselling for children of all ages. Using art, play and conversation she assists children to resolve various emotions relating to life stresses stemming from separation/divorce, death, school issues, bullying and adjustment to blended family life. She also assists children to resolve issues such as anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem and poor self-confidence. Sarah actively involves parents as a partner in the counselling of young children, guiding and coaching them in strategies for resolving behaviour issues for their children. I have extensive experience working with young children and youth who are survivors of trauma and/or struggle with mental health. While I typically focus on clients 14+, I will gladly work with parents and their children who need support. I'll initially meet with the parent/guardian, and then parents are welcome to join initial sessions with the child if that is preferred. Parents are always part of mapping out plans for care for children/youth under 14.

Children can often exhibit externalizing or internalizing behaviors when they are unable to express themselves or process/cope with their feelings and emotions. Therapy can be a safe space for children to make sense of their feelings through creative and engaging means. Depending on age, working with young children can entail working with parents on how to best support their child in what they are going through and to give parents a space to reflect on the kind of parent they want to be while expressing concerns or personal challenges they may be experiencing.
