Hello! My name is Tory Baker-Reed, and I am a Therapist/Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW). Your wellness is my priority, and I will work with you to develop the strategies that will support your unique journey.

No two service users are alike, and I offer multiple wellness modalities and customized options to fit with your personal needs. Among the modalities that I practice, EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), narrative/talk therapy, Psychodrama, Psychodramatic Bodywork and Tapping (EFT) are the most frequently utilized.

As a social worker and therapist, I apply an anti-oppression lens to everything I do both personally and professionally.  I am always learning and searching for new healing methods to assist my clients on their path through life.

I work consciously to help people become empowered with skills to self-advocate and navigate the world with mindfulness and self-awareness. I recognize that in the therapeutic landscape, some people are sprinters and others run marathons. My role in supporting you is to go at your pace, to the places you choose to bring me, so together we can find the methods that assist best in your healing, confidence, and belief in yourself.

When we first begin to work together, I’ll cover the boundaries of confidentiality and your rights as a client.  You are welcome to interview me and ask questions about my work and therapeutic skills. This will give you the opportunity to get to know who I and how I will work with you as an individual.

Over the first few sessions, history taking, and your spontaneous sharing will be my main priority. As your story unfolds, different options or therapeutic pathways will be shared as I begin to develop the possible ways of addressing your needs. I’ll make suggestions on how we may work together by providing you with an overview of approaches I feel may work well for you. These will be offered as suggestions, as your wishes and comfort are always the priority.

I encourage every client to ask questions and state their needs. I will support your choices, even if you choose to work in a way that differs from my suggestions. Your rights as a client are the foundation on which everything else is built. I encourage you to question options, to say ‘no’ at any time, and to ask for additional information/resources. On the Thrive Centre’s website, client rights are posted and available for review https://www.thrivesmithsfalls.ca/client-bill-of-rights

Before transitioning into self employment, I spent 21 years working with youth, children and families in high levels of crisis. I supported families during their most trying times, gaining important experience in working with trauma, abuse dynamics, family systems, and helping people navigate institutions including police, courts, and healthcare.

I look forward to getting to know you and developing a trusting connection that supports you in addressing the challenges/needs that brought you to therapy.
