For me, psychotherapy begins with a solid therapeutic relationship. When there is safety and trust, healing and growth can occur. Respect for my clients and professionalism is of utmost importance to me. I have a kind, genuine, and candid nature which helps clients relate to me and feel comfortable. I believe that feeling heard and understood and empathized with by someone who really cares about you is healing.

Clients often ask me what "type" of psychotherapy I practice. The answer to that question is complicated, and is perhaps best answered by "it depends". My own belief is that different types of problems benefit the most from different types of therapy, and that a therapist who offered the same treatment for every problem would be doing his clients a disservice. With some clients I am apt to use a more "behavioral" or "cognitive" focus with an emphasis on problem-solving, adaptive coping, and altering maladaptive thought and behavioral patterns. With other clients, I may use exercises that focus on self-awareness, focus on past trauma to achieve recovery or some other form of treatment.

I am a licensed psychologist who uses an eclectic approach to treating those individuals I am working with. I believe that each and every person is unique and I do not use a "one size fits all" approach. After meeting with an individual and identifying their needs, I work collaboratively with that person to establish a treatment plan to successfully meet the needs and overall goals of treatment.

I believe that true and lasting healing comes from a willingness to deeply experience and explore the emotions related to your present and past experiences. Unexamined feelings tend to lead to painful and unwanted symptoms. By understanding and experiencing your feelings and emotions, you will be able to grieve. In this case, grieving is the letting go of emotion, which then makes room for new, positive and effective emotions, thoughts and behaviors. I believe that therapy is not magic e or a quick fix, but is a process that requires work, faith and commitment. This journey includes a number of approaches, which may include challenging negative or self-sabotaging beliefs or learning relaxation or mindfulness strategies. It is a wonderful process...(view profile to read more)
