That "One Big Happy Family" feeling is often fleeting, as it tends to be affected by the constantly changing demands placed on each family member. Sometimes family reactions aren't directly affected by painful or chaotic life events, but are conflicts or power struggles that may have existed from childhood. If disagreements and emotional/irrational behaviors have become the norm in your household, it may be time to enlist my help. As a skilled therapist & objective professional, I can help you & your family hash out your issues in a structured, safe environment. Furthermore, I can assist you in decreasing resentment & distrust, while helping you improve insight & communication w/ one another

There are times when demands on the family system cause wear and tear on the system which can contribute to a dysfunctional home environment. Family counseling can be beneficial in helping a family learn skills and strategies to rebuild and improve relationships. The therapeutic process can help family members gain an understanding of how the household functions and may focus on identification of roles within the family with the overall goals being identification of strengths, improved communication, and increased empathy and emotional support, which will create more effective family management.

Most family therapists inadvertently create more chaos through their well-intentioned efforts to assist a family move through a change process. Why? Brains are inherently deregulated (all of us, may I add) and most talking and dialoguing misses brain-centric problems that need more intensive help. Many times the emotional trauma created by years of solving problems ineffectively can wreak havoc on the brain's parasympathetic nervous system, not ever giving the family a break from flight or fight thinking. In family therapy, the family itself is the client. That's because each individual member is as important as the rest in forming the family and each one is playing a key part in the family's situation. Members of a family share an emotional history and sometimes this history (or the past) gets carried into the present, often to an extent that causes unhappiness or misunderstanding. Communication is another key factor. Often, just pointing out and clearing up communication patterns can of itself allow much healing (as well as prevention of future unnecessary conflicts).

Families can be challenging as there are many different personalities all trying to get along with each other, while also trying to get their own needs met. Families can easily become chaotic and disengaged due to unresolved conflicts over the years. Depending on the presenting problems, I may work with all of the family members together, individually or the parents by themselves. My primary goal is help the family become as functional as possible, while helping each of the family members live happy and healthy lives. Depression, anxiety, addiction and trauma can all create an imbalance in the family system and my job is properly diagnose the problems and create an effective treatment plan.

My approach to the healing of the family is to work with each individual in the family system bringing healing from damaged emotions. When this is accomplished, the family is able to relate from an emotionally healthy perspective. I also do temperament analysis which enables me to understand and share the unique temperament of each family member. Creation Therapy (temperament analysis) gives you your unique creation genetically coded into you at the time of your conception. Your temperament determines how you perceive God, yourself and others. CT identifies your strengths and your weaknesses. CT identifies your needs and how to get them met. Do not wait.
