Kamloops, founded in 1818, is located the Kamloops Lake with around 95,000 residents. When the area was first established, it was inhabited by the Secwepemc Nation, which is part of the Interior Salish group. Then the European settlers came around 1811 establishing a fur trading post. North West Company subsequently established Fort Thompson in the northeast side of the area, followed by the establishment of the Pacific Fur Company the next year.
