Mental Health in Niagara on the Lake

Niagara on the Lake, home to just over 15,000 residents, is known for its historic monuments, thriving culture, and beautiful scenery. Proud of its diverse community based neighborhood, Niagara on the Lake welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy what they have to offer, whether it be for a short vacation stay or a long term move.2 However, among the diversity still lies the issue of stigmas against mental health. Common mental health illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder can make others look at people with these illnesses differently, leading to discrimination, bullying, low self-esteem and other negative outcomes for the person suffering the illness.3 These negative effects can ultimately hider the persons ability to find a stable job, be accepted in their community, and enjoy their life to the fullest.
