Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be a therapist. Well, I didn’t know that was an actual job. I just knew I wanted to sit around and talk to people.
As I got older, the pull became even greater. I wanted to know what people were thinking, why they did what they did, why they didn’t do what they said they wanted to do, and why some people were able to bounce back from severe hardship more quickly than others.

I suspect my desire to live in this space first came from losing a sister at such a young age. Earlier than most people, I learned what empathy looked and felt like. I learned the power of listening and holding space for people. And I learned that when you don’t deal with pain, you hold it in the body and it comes out in a variety of negative ways.

Over the past 22 years my time as a social worker, counselor, teacher and therapist has given me the opportunity to work with victims of incest and sexual abuse, those suffering with eating disorders and negative body image, juvenile offenders, college student athletes, career changers, those navigating divorce and loss, people suffering with depression and intense grief, and more.

These days I work primarily with women and girls on issues related to eating disorders, negative body image, sexual assault trauma, divorce, grief and major life transitions.
I help them learn how to:
  • Attack their problems and not themselves
  • Love their bodies and themselves like their life depends on it
  • Discern what is most important to them instead of outsourcing their goals and happiness to others
  • Answer the question, "Should I say or should I go?"
  • Let go of past trauma and remove pain from the body
  • Feel comfortable in their own skin again, or maybe, for the first time
  • Write a new and hopeful story for their future no matter what has happened in the past

I believe our lives are multi-storied and that the stories we tell about ourselves shape our lives. I also believe we have the power to re-write or re-author them.

My own path taught me that in order to navigate and overcome lifelong depression, heal from an eating disorder that lasted over 30 years, and come back from a terrifying sexual assault, I had to write a new story for my life. It wasn’t easy. And it took way longer than I ever imagined. But it happened and it was a combination of therapy, writing and mind-body work that allowed me to do it. My mission now is to provide that space for others.

If it’s time for you to rewrite a new story for your life, I'd love to work with you.
Without a doubt, the experiences that inform my work the most have been the time I’ve spent with clients over the past 22 years. I’ve learned the most from them – more than any degree or license could represent. Having said that, here are some of my formal credentials:
