Grief is a normal and natural experience in our lives. Often times we can feel out of control or confused by our experiences of grief and loss. My approach to grief and loss is grounded in understanding, support and growth. Grief affects people in many different ways and there is no 'right' way to grief the loss of a person, life experiences or opportunities. Counselling is a process where you are provided with a safe place to explore your reactions, emotions and questions you might have about the grief process. Counselling also provides an opportunity to honour your loss and create new ways to move forward in your life.

Grief is a description of the feeling of loss, The feeling of loss is the result of a belief that your connection ,your love comes from a body that is now gone. This belief creates a feeling of sadness. The truth is that you can remember to value the love that is still with you and always will be - love does not die; it is not gone with the body. When you can replace the old belief with the truth you will come to a place of peace and acceptance

When you have grief, you can often feel it in your body. It may be a dull ache in the area of your heart, a heavy ball in your stomach or nausea. For each person it is slightly different. Loss of a loved one can bring overwhelming grief, which may come and go throughout life. When grief is too large and remains the same or worse, professional help can bring relief. By listening carefully to how your body, mind and emotions are experiencing grief we can transform your experience. There is a way to live more comfortably with uncomfortable feelings such as grief. And by tracking your felt experience, we discover what is needed to move through the grief rather than living in it.

Francesca believes that having a safe and comfortable place to express your grief is helpful to anyone who is grieving a loss. Allowing yourself to feel your emotions is very important. As long as your grief is moving , it is okay. The most important part of supporting a bereaved person is to acknowledge their feeling and to be with them. As time passes, the pain of early bereavement begins to fade. The depression lessens and you can begin to look forward to the future

Is it time to let go of the pain? Grief and loss can stay with us for months and even years. When we know how, letting go of grief and loss becomes easy. When we let go of the pain, we have room for new joy and new connections. Sometimes we believe if we let go of the pain, we let go of the connection to person. But, what I have found is that we don't lose any of the love. In fact ,the connection and the love can even increase. You can let go of all the pain, while the keeping the love in tact. All humans experience grief and loss at one time in their lives. I work with clients to help them accept the loss that has occurred in their lives. Once acceptance has been achieved I work with the clients to help them remember with a new perspective. Emotions play a large part in how humans work through difficult times. I help them connect to these emotions using mind/body connection process. My clients have been able to move on and live their life instead of existing within pain.

It has been said, "To the depth you have loved, you will often hurt . . . " Losing a loved one can easily be one of the most difficult of all life experiences. Loss can also come in many different forms, some of which can include a dream unrealized, a job lost, a relationship soured, or a childhood experience missed. However you have experienced loss, I would be honored to hear your story and perhaps help make some sense in the chaos of confusion and pain, maybe even helping you come to the place where you can experience a more hopeful and peaceful existence.

You may need to find ways to carry on in life, discovering new ways to participate emotionally or with life style changes. Grief and loss issues are explored in an integrative way to promote complete healing and resolution. Intergrative approaches of Cognitive Behavioral Therpay (CBT) Satir, Play and Art therapy, EMDR, Narrative, Solution Focussed are all considered, depending on the individual needs which are consulted & considered in the plan for therapy. Therapy involves, education, support, exploration and processing of thoughts and feelings in order to resolve challenges. Parents of kids should expect to be involved and supported in their awareness of grief and loss and how to assist their children in coping, as developmental factors need to be considered.

When people come for grief counselling, often there is a memory or image that is haunting them, or coming as a "flashback", and which is hard for them to let go. The work I do, using EMDR therapy helps to put such memories to rest. This does not mean that you will forget what has happened, or stop loving the person who is gone, only that it will not longer have that constant sharp-edge, ever present feel. Some clients need a few counselling sessions to ease the pain, though I've had clients who healed decades-old grief from loss of a parent in childhood, in one or two sessions. They were then able to live their lives more fully.
