Losing a friend or family member can be devastating no matter the circumstances. We can also experience pain from losing a pet, a job or the ending of a relationship. Regardless of what kind of grief or loss you are struggling with, I will support you in facing your pain and finding a way forward. I will help you to understand the process and stages of grief and make sense of it. When we come to make meaning out of our loss our pain is lessened. I will also help you find peace and acceptance.

Unfortunately, grief is an unavoidable part of life. Everyone will lose someone they love at some point in their life. Managing a loss can be difficult and the world can feel like it's flipper over. Grief is a powerful emotional response to a loss that we have had and is not limited to the loss of losing someone. I help guide my clients in a non-judgemental way in helping to process their emotions attached to the grief that they are experiencing along with processing the event of the grief. I will listen to my clients in a supportive manner, sensitively and caringly help individuals to grieve their losses in their own unique ways and go over rituals which may help despite their grief.

When people come for grief counselling, often there is a memory or image that is haunting them, or coming as a "flashback", and which is hard for them to let go. The work I do, using EMDR therapy helps to put such memories to rest. This does not mean that you will forget what has happened, or stop loving the person who is gone, only that it will not longer have that constant sharp-edge, ever present feel. Some clients need a few counselling sessions to ease the pain, though I've had clients who healed decades-old grief from loss of a parent in childhood, in one or two sessions. They were then able to live their lives more fully.

Many people suffer from grief and loss, whether it be a change in careers, or job loss, the loss of a loved one, the disruption of a marriage ending in separation or divorce. The diagnosis of disease or illness of an elderly parent, or a child diagnosed with special needs. All of these areas result in a sense of loss and grief and I work with clients to process those feelings to help individuals heal.

Grief and loss are integral parts of life but the emotional devastation that we can experience as a result, can be extremely hard to manage. It's natural that we want to minimize the emotional fallout - it's so hard on our hearts! Medical research has shown that the physical effect on our hearts looks just like a heart attack! The good news is that it's possible to recover. With help to navigate such painful places, I've seen people experience new insights, develop new ways of understanding themselves and others and transform a broken heart into a functioning one again. It's not an easy road, but it leads to a lighter place.

I work directly with the emotional parts of the brain to take the edge of the pain of grief and loss. I accomplish this through the use of narrative therapy, logotherapy (meaning and purpose), EMDR and OEI (draw out specific areas of emotional pain), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Clients report that this process significantly decreases their level of stress and pain without the need to recall or relive painful events.

The pain of grief is different from any pain we feel during our lives. Grief brings up different and sometimes conflicting emotions and unprocessed grief leads to other mental health issues. My approach to grief is creating a safe space in which the clients can share the many different emotions that grief brings up. I also help my clients get in touch with what they need to go through this difficult phase with more compassion. We talk about what the loss means for them and how they can build their life around all the changes that grief brings. Together we will sit with difficult emotions, with the questions that might not have any answers and with the overwhelming pain.

Grief and loss is common difficulty that many if not all of us experience. Grief and loss often leads to a host of different thoughts and emotions that may not always be understood by one who is experiencing it. It is my hope to help you better understand these thoughts and feelings, while also support you in exploring your needs as an individual during this time. Once we are able to obtain more clarity on your experiences with grief and loss, we may then start working towards the healing that you as a unique person needs. I work towards facilitating a fluid Person-Centered process that aims to achieve this.

Grief is a natural response to loss. One of the most important things we can do for grief is to honour it's presence. I will help you process the emotions around your grief, help you to put words to things you are feeling and hold space for you to feel all your feelings. Contrary to popular belief, grief involves any kind of loss, not just the loss of life, this could mean transitions, moves etc.

My approach when working with grief and loss is to honour the relationship with your lost loved one. We have this idea that when someone dies that we are not supposed to talk about them anymore as if they never existed and that you are supposed to mourn and move on. I do not believe that is helpful. Instead, I believe there is a way to grieve that honours the person who no longer walks the earth and keeps the relationship alive. Death is the end of their physical presence but not their influence on your life.

My hope is that as clients work through the reality of the loss they have experienced, they will recover their clarity and inner direction, and will begin to create ways to move forward. Clients are encouraged to acknowledge the loss and to explore the gamut of emotions accompanying this loss. Dealing with grief & loss is not easy. When we are grieving, it is often multi-faceted and non-linear, it can bring up many different emotions, even ones we had not expected. Working with a therapist through grief & loss can help process the many emotions that may arise. I view the grieving process of each client as unique and allow space for them to process whatever it is they need to work towards healing.

All humans experience grief and loss at one time in their lives. I work with clients to help them accept the loss that has occurred in their lives. Once acceptance has been achieved I work with the clients to help them remember with a new perspective. Emotions play a large part in how humans work through difficult times. I help them connect to these emotions using mind/body connection process. My clients have been able to move on and live their life instead of existing within pain.

I support people going through grief by using a mindful approach. This forgiving way of working through one of the most difficult, stressful and confusing times in life allows you to grieve at your own pace without any judgement. Often people with good intent ask if we are still grieving, perhaps they are not aware that there is no timeline to grief. If you are grieving and you need support I can help you navigate this very surreal time.

My approach to grief and loss is to first acknowledge that grief is our natural human reaction to the sadness of losing something or someone intensely precious and meaningful to us. Losses can be the loss of a person, a relationship, a dream, a pregnancy, a job, or even things such as our health, independence, or dignity. Working with me, I will create an environment of compassion, authenticity, empathy, and caring. Step by step, I will walk with you as we examine your emotional world as it relates to loss. Emotions which are allowed to be experienced and expressed with the safety of a genuine and caring therapist, can release us from the pain we experience and can open the door to healing.
