Prior to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, I worked at IBM for 14 years. IBM started downsizing and I was faced with the decision of having to move out of state in order to keep my job with IBM. I chose to stay and pursue my passion to become a therapist, but it required going to school for 6 years while working full time. A large component of career choice is how we view ourselves and what we feel we can accomplish. So there's a big element of identity in there. I use Positive Psychology tools to assess the individual's strengths of character and what they view as important tools for success that they already have in their arsenal. From that perspective, we also look at those character strengths that could use a little further strengthening in order to best serve the individual reach their goals. Dreaming and imagining are big pieces of this process, so we also explore those in depth. I encourage realistic dreaming and identify fears and doubts that getting the way of dreaming and accomplishing dreams.
