Careers are integral to the identities of many people, while for others careers are simply means for attaining a happy life. Whether you’re developing your first career or looking to switch careers, I use a combination of assessment batteries and counseling to explore my clients’ goals, preferences, and aptitudes to identify their career path and develop a plan for achieving it.

A large component of career choice is how we view ourselves and what we feel we can accomplish. So there's a big element of identity in there. I use Positive Psychology tools to assess the individual's strengths of character and what they view as important tools for success that they already have in their arsenal. From that perspective, we also look at those character strengths that could use a little further strengthening in order to best serve the individual reach their goals. Dreaming and imagining are big pieces of this process, so we also explore those in depth. I encourage realistic dreaming and identify fears and doubts that getting the way of dreaming and accomplishing dreams.

Career Counseling is about change. Whether you are changing a career position, seeking a new field, or a student changing a major, the core of career counseling is preparation and the understanding of your goals and how they affect your life as a whole. In my practice, I do not use assessments or aptitude tests, as I believe the client is the best source of information. Additionally, we will evaluate your level of risk taking, relationships and approaches to pursue a new career path. I help non-college bound teens combine their life experience with their passion to develop a vision of a career they would enjoy. I help young adults who are considering returning to college brainstorm about next steps and develop an action plan.

Prior to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, I worked at IBM for 14 years. IBM started downsizing and I was faced with the decision of having to move out of state in order to keep my job with IBM. I chose to stay and pursue my passion to become a therapist, but it required going to school for 6 years while working full time.
