Roseville is a slowly growing city that is home to over 124,000 people. Over 26 percent of the population is under the age of 18, meaning there is a need for child and adolescent mental health services. Common adolescent issues of depression, anxiety, bullying, and family problems can cause great distress. Couples in the Roseville area can also experience stress in the relationship because of a number of different issues. Over 8 percent of county residents live in poverty.2 With high median home prices, some families are unable to find adequate housing.

First 5 Placer is a public organization that was created after California passed the "Children and Families Act." The essential purpose of the organization is to provide resources and support for families who have children under the age of five. First 5 Placer offers educational and outreach programs that help nurture the development of the county's youngest residents. Programs that increase infant, toddler, and child safety are available, as are parental services that increase resiliency, patience, and parenting skills. For more information about these programs, call 530-745-1413.3

Current Initiatives

The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) is a mental health services initiative to improve mental health care in California. In Roseville, the MHSA is the primary impetus for the Campaign for Community Wellness. The overarching mission of the campaign is to provide support for traditional and non-traditional mental health services in Placer County. The campaign seeks to inform the public about mental illness and reduce the stigma of living with a psychological disorder. Suicide prevention programs are another key component of the campaign, as are services for older members of the community.4
