The mind is incredibly malleable. Our environment and reactions to it continually form thoughts and processes for thinking. Sometimes, this happens without our consent or awareness and we end up with thought patterns we cannot find our way out of. We may not even know where they came from. I became a psychologist to broaden my knowledge of the therapeutic process. My doctoral schooling exposed me to theories of personality and psychotherapy not covered in earlier training. This experience afforded me the opportunity to focus on therapies which are characterized by a close working relationship between client and therapist. I came to see that it is the relationship that heals and that by exploring interactions in the therapeutic relationship as well as looking at present day and historical feelings and thoughts, insight and clarity of mind result, enabling lasting change to be achieved. Becoming a Psychologist enhanced my clinical skills and knowledge base immeasurably.
