For example, we use the FICA tool: faith, importance, community, and address: • Do you consider yourself a person of faith and how would you describe your faith tradition? • What importance does your faith have in your life? • Are you a member of a local church or faith community? • How would you like me to address these spiritual matter?

Being a Christian certainly does not keep us from experiencing hard times, emotional struggles, illnesses, or relationship pain. Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality. Is a Christian Counseling perspective important to you in therapy? As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

As Jennifer's practice is located in a Catholic Church, which she attends she is open to offering a Christian counseling experience. She encourages client's with a Christian religious preference to discuss that with her upon first contact. Jennifer uses prayer and the Bible Christian authors and other specifically Christian sources to facilitate Christian counseling.

God promises that we can know the truth and the truth can set us free. This is the foundation for counseling. When clients have faith in God, that can be a wonderful resource for them in their healing journey. False beliefs can cause painful emotions and relational dysfunctions. Sometimes we need help understanding God's truths and how they apply to our lives.
