Much of my practice focuses on persons suffering from depression. Clients include college age students, young and middle-aged adults as well as the elderly. I engage a number of beneficial therapy modalities including: crisis intervention, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic narrative, guided imagery and critical stress debriefing. Due to the high prevalance of cooccurence specifically anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression, integrative therapy modalities are employed. Every session utilizes Carl Rogers' famous client centered model and places priority on establishing a warm, safe, empathic environment conducive to achieving favorable outcomes and restoration.

We help our client to overcome or manage depression symptoms through holding safe space for them to work through difficult emotions and experiences in a supportive environment. Depression can be caused by many different factors and can be temporary or chronic. Processing traumatic experiences and gaining perspective into what is contributing to your symptoms can shed light on how to lessen the severity and have more good days than bad. We will utilize therapy techniques tailored to your specific needs to assist you in making progress.

Depression is a debilitating condition that can be either situational and other times genetically driven despite your external world. Things can appear great on the outside and you may feel you do not have any "reasons" to feel bad, yet you still do! At KML, we do not judge people for having depression. We teach DBT, CBT restructuring, cognitive appraisal strategies and other techniques to help you make immediate change. Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. In my experience, I have noted there are many factors contributing to depression. Depression manifests physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or in any combination of these. Sometimes treatment involves a combination of medication and counseling interventions. However, because of the intricacies of depression, what works for one person may not prove effective for someone else. Sometimes relief is a matter of trial and error until that effective combination of interventions is identified.

Children ages 3-ll suffer from depression. It manifests itself differently than in adults. Children may act out and/ or display angry behaviors. I use client-centered play therapy in a safe environment, enabling the child to express his/her emotions and thoughts through play. Play Therapy uses play, a child's natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words.
