People need to be aware of what happens in their bodies and how the body can signal anger before someone flies into a rage. Often people are irresponsible with their emotions because, they are unaware of what they are feeling. My guidance is used to learn about feelings and explore childhood trauma, neglect, and abuse that may be creating uncontrolled anger outbursts.

I currently offer anger management therapy through discussing the cause and source of anger and working through ways to handle anger in a positive way. Anger is a normal, natural reaction. What is important is how we handle our anger and that we handle it in a positive way. Anger can become addicting for some and itis hard to break the cycle. Anger management is difficult, and I can help you get to where you can handle your anger in a positive way.

I work with many clients that have Anger Management Issues. Some have reported that they were unable to contain their anger when they were using; some find that anger seems to be a new thing in Recovery. As we explore it more, we often find that there are actually other feelings buried under the anger, and it’s not really anger at all. Other times, it really is anger, and we will work on identifying the Antecedent or Precipitating Behaviors (that which happened before hand) so that newly learned coping skills can be implemented before the anger amplifies to the degree that needs managing. Clients will work on learning effective coping and communication skills.

I prefer the term trigger management. Anger stems from frustration, hurt, annoyance and disappointment. We will work together to control your feelings and actions that may have been getting you in trouble at school, home, the community or at work. Recognizing your triggers can help use appropriate ways to reach goals and solve problems. You can overcome those outbursts and lead the life you desire.

Anger becomes a habitual way of responding to frustration and stress in life. It can become particularly harmful for our relationships with others, whether that be in our romantic relationships, in our families, or in the workplace. Unfortunately, our society tends to reinforce aggressive ways of handling relationship difficulties and the general frustrations of life. Expressing impatience, frustration, and anger have become all too common as acceptable modes of handling conflict. Overcoming patterns of anger requires honest self–appraisal and a deep commitment to treating others with respect at all times using more respectful skills of effective assertiveness.

There's no shame in asking for help with anger management. What causes shame is the damage you cause others when your anger spills out onto them. In any healthy relationship, disagreements are to be expected. But decisions need to be discussed and negotiated, not forced or made on the sly. Anger management is about learning how to regulate negative emotions, ask directly for what we need, and tolerate the frustration and disappointment that come with being in relationship with others. If you are struggling to hold it together without blasting people you care about, you need help with anger management.

I have worked with many clients, mostly men but some women, to help them understand and better manage the frustration and anger in their lives. Sometimes the anger stems from patterns learned in childhood, sometimes it arises from just not knowing how to better manage the frustrations of life. I can work with clients to help them reduce their overactivity and gain not only insight into the problem, but better control and ultimately, better relationships.

Anger is normal: it is a form of communication and can even be advantageous at times. However, it often masks other underlying emotions (such as shame, fear, low self-worth) and its expression may hurt ourselves and/or those around us. Our work together can identify your specific anger triggers, develop ways to better manage both the emotional and physical components of anger, improve your ability to express yourself assertively v. aggressively, and repair the damage that the prior expression of anger may have caused.
