While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. For us, the work is more about truth and transparency of Christ's message and working on the natural laws of accountability and decision making that evolve from that. If one honors God's natural laws of reaping and sowing around the decisions one makes, one is indeed living Scripture to its fullest. I know how difficult it can be to figure out which counsellors in Halifax are able to integrate Christian faith principles into the practice of therapy. It is for this reason that I am transparent about this part of myself; so that other Christians would know that I am a safe person to open up to and that I would understand their perspective. I have been educated and trained in mainstream counselling approaches but have taken ongoing professional development to learn how to integrate faith into evidence based therapy models. The Bible says that in this life we will face adversity. There are no exemptions for Christians. However, when Christians experience adversity in the form of loss, persecution, rejection, illness etc. they are reminded of their humanity. Pain and heartache can overwhelm to the point that even Christians struggle to understand, forgive, accept, or process their experiences. These experiences often decrease their capacity to access God’s promises. When this happens, meaning and purpose become problematic and Faith is diminished. Counseling provides a safe space to relieve the physical, emotional and mental manifestations of pain and begin a courageous and restorative journey toward peace.
