Psychotherapy is a type of talk therapy that has been proven to alleviate symptoms of mental health concerns and mental illness. I use various types of therapy that compliment each other, such as CBT, DBT, EFT, ACT, SE, IFS and EMDR. Each approach helps my clients in a different way and helps for a well rounded recovery that promotes overall wellness and growth.

People often come to therapy to get rid of painful and difficult feelings. Rather than getting rid of our feelings, therapy is a skilled process of helping us understand ourselves so we can use our feelings to navigate our lives. Even the very painful feelings hold vital information for us to become sure-footed in our life. Just like in martial arts, we use the momentum of the attacker and redirect it to ensure our safety ; in therapy we use the information from the painful feelings to clarify what we need to create more safety in our lives so we can thrive. It's a valuable process of allowing our feelings to work for us to create satisfying joyful lives.

I use several research-based theories for individual counseling CBT, DBT & ACT. These theories provide practical skills that can help you gain a better understanding of yourself. By reframing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, we can reduce emotional suffering. In my work as a mental health nurse, I have had the privilege of working with many people struggling with difficult situations and trauma. My approach is to be present, empathetic, and to understand the clients’ prospective. Relationships take hard work and commitment. Giving each person a place to voice their side of the story and be heard by their partner can often iron out the wrinkles in a relationship & help couples reconnect.

Each client’s experience in psychotherapy is unique and deeply personal. Oftentimes, what may work well for one client, may not be as helpful for the next. I work collaboratively with clients to determine what psychotherapy may look like for you. I strive to provide an integrative mix of modalities, approaches and ideas to ensure you feel supported and hopeful in this journey. Working from a systemic viewpoint, I also strive to holistically explore an individual’s experience, beginning with the inner emotional experience and broadening to areas such as culture or societal expectations, for instance. Brantford is southwest of Ontario with an approximate population of around 90,000.  The city is located on the Grand River and sometimes referred to as the Telephone City since a famous former resident invented the telephone - Alexander Graham Bell.  The Neutral Nation, Attawandaron, occupied this area during the 17th century.  The settlement was destroyed when the Iroquois declared war in 1650, exterminating the Neutral Nation.  In 1784, Captain Joseph Brant and the Six Nations Indians were given a large land grant by the British Crown for their loyalty.  The name originally given was Brant’s ford.  It wasn’t until 1847 when the European settlers starting coming that the area was renamed to Brantford.  Brantford was officially incorporated in 1877.  The Mohawk Chapel which was part of the original native settlement remains as Ontario’s oldest Protestant church. The economy in Brantford consisted mostly of manufactured goods that were exported during the first half of the 20th century.  The city used to be a railroad hub in southern Ontario and is the deepest navigable point on the Grand River.  This helped the city to develop from a farming community to more of a blue collar industrial city.  As this developed the benefits of a Christian counselor Brantford, ON worked to help individuals find career direction and training for the new industry.  The agriculture implement industry was centered on companies like Massey-Harris, Cockshutt Plow Company, and Verity Plow.  This industry actually helped Brantford to sustain economic growth through most of the 20th century.  Unfortunately with the bankruptcies of White Farm Equipment and Massey-Ferguson and several other manufacturers, the city was seeing a steady decline in their economy during the 1980s and 1990s.  The upswing in the city’s economy has been helped by the completion of the Brantford to Ancaster section of highway as well as the relocation of Proctor & Gamble and Ferrero Spa to Brantford.
