Anger can come from a variety of different sources, which is why it is important to work with a therapist through these issues. Anger is an externalized behaviour, that is triggered by something that is internal. Through determining these elements, we can work together to build skills to increase healthy emotional processing, prevent anger from externalizing, and overcome the challenges that come with anger.

Anger is like an iceberg. It is only the tip. The other nine-tenths remains hidden and unknown. We need to connect with the nine-tenths, or the primary feelings such as hurt, pain, guilt, shame and fear. I will work with you to unearth your primary feelings and to devise alternative ways to manage your feelings. A good book for you to read is Hold Me Tight by Susan Johnson, especially the chapter "Recognizing the Demon Dialogues."

Anger is one of the many emotions all of us experience. It is natural and normal. More often than not, it is an automatic response to pain. Unlike sadness, anger can provide a surge of energy in he moment. However, pain alone isn’t enough to trigger anger. Thoughts also trigger anger. Sometimes that means, when a situation occurs, the way in which our thoughts make assumptions, interpretations, and evaluations, and make us believe that the other person is causing us harm. Thus, some psychologists argue that instead of recognizing and and dealing with our painful experiences, we often express anger at someone else. This is not always the case, but does happen more often than we think.

Anger is probably the most misunderstood emotions and also one of our most valuable tools. Many of us have expereinced anger as abusive, brutal or scary. But don't confuse the feeling of anger with it's expression. The flip side of anger is passion. When we are really anger we are very passionate! We care deeply about something. Regardless of how it looks, anger is always a call for change. If we understand it and use anger to work for us, it never has to become large or mean. Instead it is like an inner advocate working for us with clarity and firmness creating the changes we need. We will work with you to harness your anger and get it working for you rather than against you!

Treatment for anger management frequently includes; learning what anger is, identifing triggers, recognizing physical signs, learning th respond to anger appropriately, and then dealing with underlying feelings.

I work with children dealing with anger issues. I partner with parents in helping children to manage anger. Because anger usually hides deeper feelings my approach helps children become more self aware and able to identify a range of feelings. I help children learn how to become more aware when they are escalating and know how to descalate and self soothe. I also help parents to become more attune to their children's needs and provide guidance in avoiding power struggles and providing containment.
