We are living in a high pace, stressful world and it is easy for this to take a toll on our well being. I work with both women and children in need of a place to work through issues of anxiety and stress. As women, we are socialized to be caregivers. However, we also need to make time for our own needs and to create space to unpack the issues that may have been placed on the back burner too long. Children also deal with stress and anxiety. I use a developmentally appropriate approach to my work with children. I integrate a cognitive behavioural approach into my play and art therapy interventions to help children cope better.

Working with people who experience anxiety is something that I find very fulfilling. Anxiety can lead people to feel like an inferior version of themselves, affecting social interactions, familial responsibilities, work performance, and confidence in general. Stress is something that we need in our lives, to a certain degree. Without it, we would not have the motivation to do what needs to be done; excessive amounts of stress, however, can lead us to flight, fight, or freeze. Recognizing how stress affects us, and how to manage it in a way that promotes well-being is something that can be learned in therapy.

I help clients overcome addictions by targeting underlying anxieties driving the use of addictive substances or behaviours. By using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help clients uncover underlying anxieties, building coping skills that allow them to gain a sense of freedom and control. Addictions are just the tip of the iceberg, often fueled by anxious thoughts. These thoughts keep a person isolated or using substances to cope. Throughout our work together, I help clients get out of their head and into the present, focusing on what matters most.
