Anger is one of the emotions that can get us into trouble in our relationships and even with ourselves. First of all, all emotions are neither right or wrong, it's our behavior that can be the problem - how we process (or don't process) our feelings of anger is usually the issue. Gaining self awareness in how you feel anger in your body and then gaining strategies to process it in a healthy matter is the focus I take in working with managing anger in clients.

Anger is often thought of as a negative emotion, but I like to think of Anger as the part of you that loves you and wants to stand up for you when you’ve experienced something “unfair.” Anger does not always make the best decisions about when to stand up for you, so I work collaboratively with clients to identify and explore how anger shows up in their lives, and to strengthen and develop strategies to minimize the impact it has on living the life you want to live. Anger is a completely normal, often healthy human emotion. But if it gets beyond your control, it can be very destructive in your work and interpersonal relationships and can drastically devastate the quality of your life. Fortunately, anger can be 'managed' which is very different than 'suppressing' it. Unexpressed anger leads to a host of other problems including high blood pressure. However, when we learn how to 'manage' our anger, we can learn to diminish both the emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger causes. We can learn to avoid triggers and develop strategies. We can learn how to problem solve, change our thinking and relax our bodies.

Anger is a fundamental emotion in our human experience, so my approach is focused on helping clients understand the root causes of their anger and develop healthier ways to manage and express it. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore the underlying triggers and emotions that lead to anger outbursts. Anger is a sign that your values or boundaries have been crossed, so we will work together to identify and challenge negative thought patterns and automatic reactions to respond more thoughtfully and constructively. We will develop practical tools to navigate life's challenges with greater calmness and resilience, while maintaining self-respect and dignity.

There can be a misconception that Anger is "bad" or "dirty", when in fact it is an emotion like all others. It is true, ANGER can be uncomfortable and lead to other difficulties that have an impact on one's life, relationships and functioning, however, it is not the emotion that leads to such challenges, rather, it is our response and actions that create the difficulty and judgment. In working with me at Growth Counselling Services, you and your challenges with anger will be met with acceptance, compassion, and understanding. We will therapeutically explore it's roots, while using an approach that allows you to make different choices that are in line with your established and personal values

There are 3 phases in working with Anger 1.Prevention- Attempts to forestall the very onset of anger. 2. Intervention- Aims to reduce the intensity or the duration of anger that has already ignited. 3. Postvention- Aims to discharge any residual anger. Emotions are regulated by re-experiencing, releasing, or converting them into a safe form. We will not only focus on your cognitions and behaviors as entry points but also focus on the modification of affect (your emotions). Anger is an emotion. To have no room in therapy for the feeling component of this emotion is to deny its very essence, your existence. Gestalt perspective- Expression of anger can be very productive. Let out!

Anger is a common and useful emotional reaction. However, there are times when anger is excessive or extreme and controls a person to the point that it is hurtful to them, their life, and their loved ones. I work with clients to understand their experience of anger, learn to identify potential triggers and underlying issues, and develop coping skills to manage these issues and emotions. Clients will learn relaxation or calming strategies, how to communicate to reduce angry outbursts, problem solving skills, and how to alter negative thinking which may be contributing to the anger. This often results in clients feeling happier, more relaxed, and having improved relationships.

Anger is often considered a negative emotion. However, it is a healthy emotion that is sometimes expressed in an unhealthy way. By exploring what's under the anger emotionally and where it stems from, I help my client become aware of their anger and help them develop skills to better express and mange it. I work in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner as I join my client in their journey of better understanding of themselves and their experience.
