Couples, married or otherwise, can find themselves in situations where they feel stuck or facing roadblocks. The relationship dynamic is complicated and there are two of you bringing your own separate personalities, histories, and emotions together while trying to build and maintain a relationship that improves both of your lives. Changing perspectives, understanding one another better, and learning better communication are some of the benefits and goals of relationship work.

Couples therapy can be like inviting someone into your “home,” the special relational zone that you share with your significant other. Teletherapy can offer further enrichment to the therapeutic process, in addition to convenience factors. I strive to maintain a neutral and gentle perspective, helping you each observe and better manage your relational patterns of communion or disconnect. I can adapt my style to help you learn and practice new ways to empathize with your partner’s perspective, communicate effectively, resolve conflict and enjoy healthy connected-ness. I use tools such as the Myers-Briggs temperament styles, IMAGO techniques, and the Prepare-Enrich assessment survey.

Couples counseling is the focus-area of my practice. Within that specialization, more specifically, I work with couples coping with infidelity and affair recovery. At the cornerstone of my approach to couples counseling is to help couples deepen their trust and establish a safe emotional climate between them. It is not easy being part of a couple. Two different people with two separate egos, and various wants, needs, preferences, and desires. Doing the work to become an effective couple is not for sissies. It requires a great deal of courage to honestly reveal who we are to our partner. My approach to working with couples helps them create the conditions for fostering an accepting, respectful, and honest relationship.

I provide couples and relationship counseling to couples experiencing a wide range of relationship issues, commitment issues, communication problems, infidelity, family conflict, and more. Treatment is collaborative and intensive. We work hard together to resolve the presenting problems while identifying the underlying issues. I am privileged to have served the LGBT community for over 15 years.

Couples counseling is my specialty, and what I most enjoy doing. I am Pro-Marriage, and work hard to help couples who want to stay together learn how to do so. I have completed Level 3 of training in Gottman Couples Therapy which utilizes a well-researched system of technique that can help couples move on from affairs, lack of intimacy and stale parallel marriages. The sessions are very interactive with the focus on processing present struggles, and re-examining past stumbling blocks to explore alternative ways to behave with each other. Couples are always seen together so that there is no story-telling and the focus is on the couple in a fair and balanced way.

Not all couples are married, but many couples still have the same problems as married people do such as communication, intimacy, recovering from affairs and how to move forward . I use the research-based tools from the Gottman Couples Therapy Method to help couples who are struggling with issues relating to their relationship and how to progress to the next level.
