I work with married couples, as well as other couples in long-term relationships. In some cases, divorce, or the threat of divorce, is in the air. Sometimes, the same arguments come up over and over again, and never get resolved. Living with another person has many benefits, but it also often means there will be disagreements between the two of you. After all, you are two different people! Couples counseling can work wonders toward resolving some of those issues, while also teaching you how to thrive in spite of the issues that can't be fully resolved.

Couples' therapy aims to help couples recognize conflicts, resolve conflicts, and improve their relationships. Through couples' therapy, you can make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding your relationship or going your separate ways. I am trained in several evidence-based couples' therapy models. I help couples understand underlying issues in their relationship, explore how their past has shaped their present behavior, and gain a better understanding of each other’s emotions.

I facilitate constructive and open dialogues to strengthen relationships. Through effective communication strategies and conflict resolution techniques, I guide couples in addressing issues and enhancing emotional connection. My goal is to help partners rediscover shared goals, improve mutual understanding, and cultivate a healthier and more fulfilling partnership.

It is very possible to have long lasting fulfilling relationships. Although they require a lot of work and can be one of the most difficult aspects of a person's life, it can also be the most positive influence on a person's health. There has been countless research done on how to relate to others in healthy ways and how to have successful relationships in all aspects of your life. Feeling connected loved, accepted, and secure in a relationship is vital to our emotional and physical well-being. Couples often get caught in "negative cycles of communication," which is detrimental to the relationship. Feelings of anxiety, fear, or loneliness heighten yet are often covered up by "anger or "numbness." One or both of you might go on the defense and possibly someone just "shuts-down. I help partners recognize their unhealthy cycle, team-up against "negative cycle," and learn new ways to connect and communicate that help each of you feel more connected, safe, and secure. Couples. Couples counseling is extremely rewarding work when the lights come on for the couple about how to relate to each other in ways that they both appreciate. We begin with basic understandings about boundaries and learn quickly how to talk and act in healthier ways. Most of us simply communicate the way that our parents did and if we can learn to improve on this just a little, there is almost immediate relief. Using better boundaries (even in talking) are the building block for healthier communication and better emotional intimacy.

Couples come to counseling because they are at an impasse--either they argue too much or they have stopped talking altogether. Maybe the intimacy is gone. Reconnecting is possible once the source of the conflict is resolved. Being flexible, respecftul, forgiving, and truly "hearing" your partner are key traits needed to resolve issues damaging your relationship.
